DRABBLE TRIO

These drabbles were written in
response to the 2006 Tracy Island Writers Forum's Drabble
Challenge. The
challenge was as follows:
Choose three of the following
six topics and write one drabble for each of the topics you
chose. You will wind up with three 100-word drabbles on
whichever three topics you chose. Here are your choices:
A)
Scott during a rescue (could be his thoughts, someone
observing him, something he's actually doing, etc.).
B)
Virgil while playing the piano (again, could be his thoughts,
someone observing/listening, etc.).
C)
Gordon's and Alan's relationship as brothers (one or both of
them thinking about it, one of them thinking about the other,
someone else ruminating on their relationship, etc.).
D)
Lady Penelope (either her thoughts or someone else's about
her/what she does, etc.).
E)
The Thunderbirds (perhaps the ship's actual POV or someone's
thoughts about one or all of them, etc.).
F)

Drabble
One
Reuters-
State police called in International Rescue today after a
frightful collision in Smackover, Arkansas involving a
wheelchair and a dumpster. Shortly after IR landed at the
scene to assist the wounded, a group of paramedics also
arrived. The rescue teams had words about which was to effect
the rescue. After a heated discussion blows were exchanged and
a ginger haired IR operative sustained a head wound. Police
foiled an attempt to hold him hostage, and a neutral team of
paramedics transferred him to a local hospital.
The
remaining IR members were last seen leaving the rescue zone in
tears.
Drabble
Two
Freshly
baked scones, fine jams, clotted cream, a choice selection of
cakes and delicate pastries. Finely cut sandwiches not even
her cook Lil could make. Brown's Hotel in London,
sophisticated and classically British, or so Lady Penelope
always thought, was the only place where one could have a
proper Afternoon Tea. She sighed when she waited for her tea.
'That's all most can afford in this hotel,' her ladyship
thought 'And one must never make a spectacle of oneself.'
But that
was easier said than done when she bit into a scone and the
jam dribbled all over her chin.
Drabble
Three
Scott
stood on the deck, listening to Virgil playing the piano. If
he was the kind of man who cried, he would cry now, for
although he didn't know the name of the composer or the work,
he recognized it. And he remembered...
Driving
with his mother to Aunt Melissa's for a visit. The downpour
that flooded the road. Sheltering in a small church where the
organist played for hours, keeping the minds of the people
there from the flooding outside.
Since then
he had wished he could make music. He couldn't. That Virgil
could was the next best thing. |
