These drabbles were written in
response to the 2006 Tracy Island Writers Forum's Drabble
Challenge. TIWF members voted for their three favorite
drabbles and Ms. Imagine took 3rd place with her first
drabble!
The
challenge was as follows:
Choose three of the following
six topics and write one drabble for each of the topics you
chose. You will wind up with three 100-word drabbles on
whichever three topics you chose. Here are your choices:
A)
Scott during a rescue (could be his thoughts, someone
observing him, something he's actually doing, etc.).
B)
Virgil while playing the piano (again, could be his thoughts,
someone observing/listening, etc.).
C)
Gordon's and Alan's relationship as brothers (one or both of
them thinking about it, one of them thinking about the other,
someone else ruminating on their relationship, etc.).
D)
Lady Penelope (either her thoughts or someone else's about
her/what she does, etc.).
E)
The Thunderbirds (perhaps the ship's actual POV or someone's
thoughts about one or all of them, etc.).
F)
Parody drabble (anything goes, parody style).

D) Lady
Penelope
I can't
believe she did it.
She pulled
the trigger, without flinching, without even blinking. Now
there's a dead man on the floor and she's offering her hand to
me...and I just...I can't take it.
"John,"
she says, but the voice belongs to a stranger. "It's safe
now."
I look up
at her. Maybe she sees my horror because now she does flinch.
She withdraws her hand.
"I'm not
sorry," Penelope says. Her voice almost breaks, her blue eyes
shimmer. She is sadness and steel and a thousand secrets. I
think I just discovered one she never meant to share.

E) The
Thunderbirds
It wasn't
because she was unique or even because she was green. Size
didn't matter, although Virgil sometimes smirked at
comparisons to the rest of the fleet. Her reliability and
unfailing strength were not the reasons for his love affair.
No, it was underneath the flash and shine that he fell for
her. Between the hum of engines and the buzz of magnetic
clamps, her nuclear heart beat out a steady four-four rhythm.
She was constant, comforting, and alive. Two had the soul of a
musician and Virgil liked to believe that it was only for him
that she sang.

F) Parody
drabble
"Tin-Tin... you can't wear..."
"Excuse
me?"
"A pair
like that, in front of... no, I won't let you."
"Alan
Tracy! How dare you?"
"They're
right out there for the whole world to see! It's not right!"
"You
should be ashamed of yourself!"
"Me? I'm
not the one parading around like-"
"Don't
dare finish that!"
"It's
indecent!"
"Don't
yell at me! Your Grandmother made me this dress!"
"What's
that got to do with it?"
"What?"
"What?"
"Alan...what exactly are you upset about?"
"Your
shoes, Tin-Tin. We're taking Pygmy to the vet and you're
wearing alligator skin shoes! Why are you blushing?" |
